Nucar Cares

Nucar Community Events

Nucar Chevrolet takes pride in our local community and state; we do our best to help out where we can! Everyone at Nucar is a caring member of the community in which we live and work. Nucar has been extremely active and supportive of our local community over the years. We've been a major sponsor for the DFRC (Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities) annually for years, including the Blue-Gold All-Star Football game, and the Blue-Gold Golf Classic. Nucar has also supported: Make-A-Wish; Ronald McDonald House; Red Cross; Food Bank of Delaware; Suburban, Capital & New Castle Little League; Kirkwood Soccer Club; William Penn High School; Appoquinimink High School; MOT Charter School and PTA; Sunday Breakfast Mission; Kay's Kamp/Kay's Kup, as well as several golf tournaments supporting other charities.

Making Strides of Delaware

The Nucar Chevrolet New Castle team walked in the local Making Strides of Delaware on Sunday the 22nd of October. The 5K walk took place at Bellevue Park Corporate Center. Our team was Rage Against The Disease Rockers For Knockers. We had close to 25 walkers come out to support us for this event.

Youth Baseball

Nucar Chevrolet supports local youth baseball every year, and this year is no exception. We’ve sponsored New Castle Little League for more than 15 years and our teams greatly appreciate the support and sponsorship. Nucar has helped them get all kinds of equipment over the years, including balls, bats, batting tees, protective screens, scorebooks, first-aid kits and many other items. This year they received a big check as well as approximately $1,250 worth of equipment. Karen Collins, Chevy Sales Manager, and Tracy Gell, Director of Marketing & eCommerce, were on hand to throw out the first pitches, present them with the big check and meet the new teams this year. We’ve got the Mets and the Cardinals this year; hopefully both will have winning seasons! Below you’ll find pictures of both the Mets and Cardinals in the back of our new Chevy Silverado, the big check presentations, and the collage with a few different shots on it.

Nucar's Annual Food Drive

Nucar has an annual food drive in November and early December to help supply food for the Food Bank of Delaware so they may help feed the hungry in our area. We're proud to say we collected more than 400 pounds of food for them last year and hope to exceed it with this year's donation. Because of their valued supporters the Food Bank of Delaware distributed 5 million pounds of food in the last year to hungry Delawareans -- this provided more than 4 million meals! Thank you to all who have participated in this over the years.

Golf Tournaments

Nucar has proudly sponsored the Sue Symes Invitational Golf Tournament, Kay's Kup Tournament, and Shure-Line Drive for a Cause Golf Tournament, just to name a few. The Sue Symes Invitational benefitted Sue Symes, a single mother of four stricken with bone cancer. Kay's Kup is an annual fund raising event that directly benefits Kay's Kamp, Delaware's ONLY children's Oncology camp. Shure-Line Drive for a Cause helps different organizations yearly. Past tournaments have benefitted First Tee of Delaware, First State Military Academy and most recently YMCA of Middletown.

Partnership with WDSD and local DJ Christa Cooper

Nucar partnered with WDSD, iHeart Media and Christa Cooper on a coat drive we've done the last couple of years. We also helped pack food boxes for Thanksgiving Day week for The Sunday Breakfast Mission. Our coat drive this year amassed 127 coats, and a box of hats, scarves and gloves to help the needy. We were also able to put together seven pallets of food boxes for Thanksgiving Day week. Our goal was five or six pallets.

Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library logo

Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library

Nestled in the heart of Odessa, the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library stands as a beacon of knowledge and community spirit. Established in 1847, it proudly holds the title of one of the first free lending libraries in the Middle Atlantic States. This historical institution began with a generous endowment from Dr. James Corbit, and despite a fire that destroyed the original building, it has continued to thrive and evolve, serving the local community with dedication.

Today, the library operates as an independent non-profit organization under the stewardship of a five-member governing Board of Trustees. It is part of the New Castle County Library System, which provides a portion of its operating funds. The library further enhances its services through additional grants and vital fundraising efforts that help maintain and expand its collection and facilities.

The Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library not only offers a rich array of books and resources but also serves as a cultural hub, hosting various community events and educational programs. Its commitment to fostering an informed and connected community exemplifies the library's enduring legacy and its pivotal role in the educational fabric of New Castle County.

Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES

The Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES (DFRC) is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout Delaware. Founded in 1956, DFRC has been a pillar of support and advocacy, raising funds and awareness through various community-centered events.

Key among these events are the DFRC Blue-Gold All★Star Football Game, the Blue-Gold Bash, and the Blue-Gold Golf Classics. These signature fundraisers not only generate substantial financial support—over $6.4 million distributed to date—but also foster greater understanding and acceptance of intellectual disabilities within the community.

DFRC's mission is to support programs that enhance the independence, potential, and overall well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities. By collaborating with volunteers, high school students, and corporate sponsors, DFRC ensures that every initiative is impactful and far-reaching. Their commitment to transparency and excellence is recognized with the GuideStar seal of approval.

For over six decades, DFRC has been a beacon of hope and inclusion, making a lasting difference in the lives of Delawareans with intellectual disabilities and promoting a message of diversity and acceptance.

NWTF logo

Old Drawyers Creek Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF

Old Drawyers Creek Longbeards Chapter is a dedicated branch of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), working tirelessly to promote wildlife conservation, particularly for wild turkeys, and to uphold hunting traditions. Established in 1973, the NWTF has made significant strides in conserving wildlife habitats, ensuring forest resiliency, and enhancing recreational opportunities across the United States.

The NWTF collaborates with government agencies, community partners, and volunteers to influence policy and advocate for wildlife management and conservation laws. This advocacy is vital for maintaining funding and support for land and wildlife management efforts.

In celebration of the NWTF's 50th anniversary, Delaware Governor John Carney recognized the organization’s half-century of dedication to conservation with a proclamation. The NWTF has been instrumental in one of the greatest conservation success stories—reviving the wild turkey population from near extinction. Over the years, the NWTF has invested over half a billion dollars to conserve or enhance more than 22 million acres of critical habitat and has spent $8.5 million on research to ensure healthy wild turkey populations.

The Old Drawyers Creek Longbeards Chapter continues this legacy, supporting local conservation efforts and fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world and hunting heritage.
